Judges Criteria

C List Breed Specialist & Non-Breed Specialist

Requirements to meet level one (which equates to the C list) and must be completed before progressing to the next level

Minimum of five years proven interest in pedigree dogs

Attend a Conformation and Movement seminar hosted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer

Complete a minimum of two full-day stewarding appointments

Attend a Requirements of a Dog Show Judge seminar and pass associated exam (either in person or online via Kennel Club Academy)

Pass the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer

  1. The above amendments in italics will come into effect for shows held on or after January 2024 and apply to judges signing contracts from the date of the announcement (21 August 2023). Existing CC judges are exempt from this requirement.

Previously it was a requirement that passing the Points of a Dog assessment and Requirements of a Dog Show Judge exam was part of JEP Level 2 criteria. These are now included in JEP Level 1 requirements.

Judges sitting multiple-choice exams held at Breed Appreciation Days from 1 January 2024 will be required to meet the amended Level 1 criteria.

Eligibility to judge –

Up to three classes (four if one is a puppy class) for any breed at limited or open show.

                   

 B List Breed Specialist (JEP Route – Level 2)

Requirements to reach JEP level two (which equates to the B List):

Previously it was a requirement that passing the Points of a Dog assessment and Requirements of a Dog Show Judge exam was part of JEP Level 2 criteria. These are now included in JEP Level 1 requirements. Consequently, JEP Level 2 criteria is now amended as follows –

Attend a Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and pass a multiple-choice examination for the respective breed.

Complete critique writing seminar and take online quiz via Kennel Club Academy.

Whilst completing the critique writing and stewarding seminars remain a JEP Level 2 requirement, the Board has agreed that they can be undertaken at any time, and that the judge does not need to wait until they meet Level 1 criteria, and are recommended to view prior to stewarding or judging.

B List Breed Specialist (Traditional Route)

To have a minimum of 5 years owning and exhibiting Pharaoh Hounds and have the support of the Pharaoh Hound Club.

To have judged a minimum of 15 Pharaoh Hounds over a period of not less than 2 years.

To have attended at least one breed specific judging seminar and passed an assessment run by the club.             

B List Non-Breed Specialist (Traditional Route)

To have a minimum of 5 years judging experience in any one breed and have the support of the Pharaoh Hound Club

To have judged a minimum of 20 Pharaoh Hounds over a period of not less than 2 years.

To have attended at least one breed specific judging seminar and passed an assessment run by the Pharaoh Hound Club

 

 

Eligibility to judge –

Unlimited number of classes for the respective breed at limited, open or championship shows (no CCs)

Any Variety classes, Groups and Best in Show at limited shows.

A3

For persons the Club would support to award Challenge Certificates but who, as yet have not been approved by the Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 List.

A3 Breed Specialist (Traditional Route)

Have seven years’ experience judging Pharaoh Hounds.

Have attended the requirements of a dog show judge seminar delivered by a Kennel Club accredited trainer, and passed the relevant examination on the Kennel Club regulations and judging procedures.

Have attended the Points of a Dog assessment conducted by a Kennel Club accredited trainer and passed.

Have attended a seminar delivered by a Kennel Club accredited trainer on conformation and movement.

Have attended at least one breed-specific seminar run in accordance with the Kennel Club Code of Best Practice for the running of a breed seminar and judging competence assessment and passed a hands-on examination where applicable.

Have bred and/or owned a minimum of three dogs of this breed when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club stud book (save in exceptional circumstances)

Have stewarded over a minimum of 12 days at shows (open or championship shows only)

A3 Non-Breed Specialist (Traditional Route)

Minimum of 5 years judging experience in the breed and have the support of the Pharaoh Hound Club.

To have judged a minimum of 30 dogs.

To have judged a breed club show or the breed at 2 championship shows without CCs.

To have attended and passed the examination on KC Regulations and Judging Procedures.

To have attended a confirmation and movement seminar.

To have attended and passed the Pharaoh Hound breed specific seminar.

To have passed the KC points of a dog seminar.

To have owned or bred a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book (save in exceptional circumstances).

To have awarded CCs in one other hound breed.

OR

A3 Breed Specialist (JEP Route – Level 3) having first passed      requirements for Levels 1 & 2

Undergo minimum of 3 mentoring sessions with a minimum of 12 months         between first and third session.

Be observed judging a breed club show, breed supported entry show or championship show without CCs.

Have achieved the relevant hands-on experience in line with the stated requirements for the relevant Stud Book Band.

Complete remaining 10 stewarding appointments (one-time qualification)

Have owned/bred a minimum of 3 dogs of this breed when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book – save for exceptional circumstances (one-time qualification)

A2

For persons who would, in principle, be approved by the Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates and who have achieved the necessary criteria to be included on the A3 Specialist/Non-Specialist Lists and achieved the Kennel Club minimum training needs for first time CC judges.

A1

For persons who have previously been approved by the Kennel Club and who have already carried out their first appointment to award Challenge Certificates in this breed.
